About Me

Hello everyone, and welcome to my personal website! I’m Matthew Young. If I seem a little different from who you might remember seeing on TV, that’s because I am now simply a regular political news enthusiast and blogger.

Having stepped away from the bright lights and high-pressure environment of frontline journalism, I’m hoping to continue sharing my observations and insights on US politics with you here in a more relaxed way.

In the past, I served as the Chief Washington Correspondent for CNBC and a White House Correspondent for CNN. That was a challenging yet incredibly rewarding career, one where I witnessed countless political storms up close and strived to deliver the most timely and in-depth reports amidst the ever-churning currents of news.

Washington, D.C., this city wasn’t just the stage for my career; it profoundly shaped my understanding and perception of politics, much like it did during my teenage years. Growing up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, practically in the shadow of the US Capitol, I was immersed in the political atmosphere from a young age.

The Washington Post was a breakfast staple at my house, and weekends often meant taking the Metro into D.C. to participate in all sorts of civic activities – truly my “political education” classroom in practice.

However, a sudden car accident drastically altered the course of my life. Though I miraculously recovered from severe injuries, my physical condition no longer allowed me to sustain the high-intensity, fast-paced demands of frontline news reporting.

After losing my job, I felt lost for a while, but my passion for political news never faded. Perhaps it’s my innate curiosity, or maybe it’s my fascination with history and the mechanisms of power, or it could be my deep belief that politics genuinely impacts all of our lives – whatever the reason, I couldn’t stop following the daily developments of American politics.

And so, I created this website. It’s like a sanctuary where I can continue pursuing what I love in a more laid-back setting. I also hope to connect with more folks who, like my past self or my present self, are “hooked” on US politics.

My daily routine remains simple: a cup of coffee and my carefully curated list of reputable US news websites. From in-depth investigations in The Washington Post to breaking news alerts from CNN, and insightful commentary from New York Times columnists, I still meticulously pore over every report, fearing I might miss any crucial political nuance.

The only difference now? Instead of rushing to be the first on the scene, I’ve become more like your dedicated “political news hunter.” And my loyal companion in this endeavor?

That’s my dog, Bruno.

He’s always there by my side as I sift through articles and analyze the latest headlines, offering silent support and the occasional nudge for a break. You might even see him pop up in some of my posts from time to time!

My new mission is to “dig up” the most noteworthy US political news from the mountain of information out there and present it to you in plain, easy-to-understand language. I hope that through my “political radar” and “information organizing skills,” I can save you valuable time, allowing you to quickly grasp key political developments even when you’re pressed for it.

If you find my work helpful and wish to encourage me to continue creating, please consider subscribing to my newsletter or becoming a paid member. Your support is the greatest affirmation for me, and the most important motivation for me to keep going on this path. And of course, Bruno and I both appreciate it very much!
